Born in Montreal (Quebec), June 16 1961. Daniel Pearl with co-founding partner Mark Poddubiuk started L'OEUF (L'Office de l'Éclectisme Urbain et Fonctionnel) in 1992, in order to concentrate their expertise in sustainable and environmental design. Bernard Olivier, L'OEUF's first employee, became the third partner in 2003. Their experience is founded in their balanced approach to evaluating multiple facets of a project right from the outset; architectural expression, economic feasibility, life-cycle assessment, construction techniques and the environmental impacts of a project.

Daniel Pearl received his degree in architecture from McGill University in 1985. The following year he worked for ARCOP in New Delhi, India, and from 1987 to 1991 with architect Michel Vinois in Montreal. In 1992, Daniel received a Mention in the Prix d'excellence de l'Ordre des architectes du Québec for La maison sous les arbres (Neumark residence).

Daniel Pearl has developed important working relationships with innovative international consulting engineers (structural, mechanical, bio-climatic design - Matthias Schuler, Transsolar, Germany) and coordinated their participation immediately within the conceptual approach phase through IDP (integrated design process). Most recently Daniel developed an all day continuing education IDP workshop that he taught with Montreal bio-climatic engineer Martin Roy, at the RAIC festival of architecture in Edmonton in May 2005.

Daniel has been teaching as a half-time professor at Université de Montréal since October of 2001. He has served as chair of the academic committee for the Canada Green Building Council sinceits inception in January 2003. In May 2005 Daniel co-organized an academic IDP workshop with Ray Cole and other members of the CAGBC's academic education committee in Halifax, where both teachers and students from divergent backgrounds (engineers, architects, urban planners, etc...) experimented with different IDP techniques and approaches.

Since 2002, Daniel Pearl and Ray Cole, from the University of British Columbia have co-chaired two international symposiums on "Greening the Curricula", where architecture students, faculty and practitioners from across Canada and parts of the U.S., were brought together to explore creative ways to introduce environmental and sustainability issues into architectural education. The underlying premise is that education is a key part of creating awareness and demand for green buildings, and enhancing the ability of our future design professionals to deliver them.

Daniel has lectured extensively on L'OEUF's experimental practice and his own academic research. Daniel is currently completing an in depth research grant on "greening" CMHC's best building practice guide for steel stud brick veneer. L'OEUF's practice has become an opportunity for testing their research with real world applications.

Daniel has been LEED accredited since 2004.
