The « Congregation des Sœurs de Ste-Anne », located in Lachine since 1860, renovated its historic convent, placed in front of the opening of the historic Lachine canal. The project foresees the complete reshaping of the building.
The flexible planning adapt to different uses of bedrooms and administrative offices. In accordance with its social engagement mission, the congregation wishes to renovate the building with respect to the environment. In spite of the constraints tied to the renovation of proprietary building, the project will be LEED GOLD certified. The building’s envelope was thoroughly analysed in combination with the electromechanical systems’ optimization. The building will be 33% more efficient than the MNECCB reference building.
The integration of new electromechanical services and a new elevator in a building that was built in between 1880 and 1960 set up for a particular challenge, as well as questions regarding the update to actual building standards.
